How to Record a Teams Meeting

Recording a call or a meeting will be very important for various purposes. When you record meetings in Microsoft Teams, your recording will be saved in the cloud and securely across your organization.

By default, all your recordings will be saved in the Microsoft Stream, but you can also choose to share in Microsoft OneDrive.

How to Record a Teams Meeting

To record a Call or meeting, you first need to join or start a new one after following the steps below.

    • Click the three dots on the screen
    • Select Start Recording

Notes:

  • Everyone will be notified that their call or meeting is recorded
  • When you stop the recording, it will take a while to save on Microsoft Stream, OneDrive or SharePoint.
  • The recording person will be notified through email from Microsoft Stream when the recording is available.
  • Additionally, all the people in the call or meeting will be notified about the recording through the chat.
  • Multiple recordings are not allowed for the same meeting if one person has already started the recording.

Why you should store your Microsoft Teams recording in Microsoft OneDrive and SharePoint

Now you can save your Microsoft Teams recording to OneDrive for Business or SharePoint storage. By default, when you start a recording in a Microsoft Teams meeting or call, it will automatically store on Microsoft Stream. 

But as per user request, Microsoft has finally agreed and now lets you store all your Microsoft Teams meetings or call recordings in OneDrive for Business and SharePoint.

Who can Record the Meetings in Microsoft Teams

Anyone who attends the meeting but is to start a recording should have at least any one of these Microsoft 365 licenses.

  • Office 365 Enterprise E1, E3, E5, F3, A1, A3, A5, M365 Business, Business Premium, or Business Essentials

Can a Guest User Record the Meetings in Microsoft Teams

No, At present, Guest users or any outside organisation user cannot start a recording in the Microsoft Teams meeting.

Can a Guest User view Microsoft Teams Recordings

Yes, guest users or any outside organisation users can view the recordings in Microsoft Team only if explicitly shared with them. 

Can I share the Recordings with Guest Users

Yes, you can share the Microsoft Teams recording with Guests or any users outside the organization. 

When will the Recording will stop in Microsoft Teams Meeting

When everyone leaves the meeting, the recording will automatically stop and start to store in the cloud. If anyone forgets to leave the meetings, the recording will continue and stop after 4 hours.

What happens if the recorders leaves the meeting

Even if the person who started the recording leaves the meeting, the recording will continue until everyone leaves the meeting.

How would I know if someone started the recording

Once anyone in the meeting starts, the recording will be notified at the top of the screen as the meeting is being recorded.

Where Can I find the recording, recorded by other users

Go to your activity or conversation, which has the meeting name on it; there, you will find a link to view the recording.

How would I know if the recording is ready

If you start the recording, you will be notified through email. Otherwise, you will be notified on the Microsoft Teams conversation tab.

Can I record the meeting if the recording is already started by others

No, only one person at the meeting can start the meeting. Once the meeting ends, the recording will be ready, and you will be notified on Microsoft Teams.
