Nobody loves being flooded with pop-up advertising, yet they are sometimes necessary. Some websites still need you to enter information via a pop-up window. Perhaps you can’t access a video or website because Safari’s pop-up filter is blocking it. Whatever the cause, here’s how to enable pop-ups in Safari.
On Your Desktop:
The following approach applies to Safari-enabled Mac desktops and laptops:
- Open Safari.
- In the upper left corner of your screen, select “Safari” from the Apple Menu. To access this menu, you must be in the Safari app.
- Then choose Preferences. You may also use the Command + comma keyboard combination to enter Safari’s Preferences.
- At the top of the Preferences box, select the Websites option.
- Select Pop-up Windows from the left sidebar.
- Finally, pick Allow from the drop-down option in the bottom right corner of the window. This will allow all pop-ups in Safari. You may also select to prevent all pop-ups or receive notifications when they are blocked.
If you don’t want to allow all pop-ups in Safari, you may make exceptions for selected websites or web pages you’re viewing. Select Allow from the drop-down option next to a website in the same Preferences box.
On Your iPhone:
Safari is the default browser on an iPhone or iOS device. Follow the instructions below to learn how to prevent pop-ups on your iPhone or iPad:
- Open the Settings app. This is a pre-installed program that cannot be removed. Its icon is designed like a gear.
- Scroll down to Safari. This will have the same icon as your Safari app.
- Finally, enable the Block Pop-ups option. When it turns green, you’ll know it’s on.
